The brief

The owners of this home in Morton first wanted a sleek canopy to keep rain and wind off a large patio while keeping the garden in full view. Once they saw how much they used it, they came back for more: a space comfortable enough for relaxing and entertaining whenever they liked.

What we built

Phase one – an 8.8 × 3.6 m glass roof in anthracite grey (RAL 7016) with a fixed glass wall on the left, which takes the edge off the prevailing wind.

Phase two – a sliding glass wall across the front, added to the existing structure. The right side stays open for airflow. In summer the front slides fully back; in cooler months it closes the room in. Subtle LED lighting in the roof turns the space into the best seat in the house after dark.

Installation

At 8.8 m wide this is one of our larger glass rooms. The posts and anchors were made to suit the patio layout. Our own team fitted the aluminium frame within five weeks of ordering, and a short second visit completed the glazing.

The result

The owners use the room all year, and two neighbours liked it enough to order their own – one a glass veranda, the other a glass room. In Morton, at least, a good glass room is contagious.
