About this glass veranda
The brief
This contemporary, timber-clad home in Burnley has a neat porcelain patio straight off the kitchen doors. The owners wanted to use it whatever the forecast – somewhere to sit with a coffee or fire up the barbecue without watching the sky – but without closing the space in or blocking light to the rooms behind.
What we built
A 5 × 3 m glass veranda with an anthracite aluminium frame (RAL 7016) and a clear toughened-glass roof. The frame is fixed to the house wall and carried on two posts at the front, so the patio stays completely open on three sides. The anthracite matches the window frames and doors, and the clear roof keeps the kitchen as bright as it was before.
The details
Integrated guttering takes rainwater away at the front edge, and the roof is set at a gentle fall so water drains straight into it.
The result
A sheltered outdoor room that feels like part of the garden. Since these photos were taken, the veranda has been upgraded to a fully enclosed glass room with sliding glass walls and electric blinds.
