Glass veranda in Middleton
5.3 × 3.4 m

The brief

A straightforward request from a home in Middleton: cover the whole patio so it can be used in any weather, and add a little privacy from the neighbouring garden on the left.

What we built

A 5.3 × 3.4 m glass veranda with a powder-coated aluminium frame in chestnut brown (RAL 8015), chosen to match the timber cladding and fencing, and a toughened glass roof. The front and right side are open; the left side has a fixed glass panel that lines up with the existing fence and screens the patio without blocking light.

Installation

Part-way through the build the owners asked whether the side glass could be extended slightly to line up better with the fence. Made-to-measure means exactly that, so we adjusted it on site. Order to installation took around seven weeks.

The result

A dry, bright patio with the dining table back in daily use – and a frame colour that looks as if it was always part of the house. Proof that, with any RAL colour to choose from, a glass veranda can look right at home on any house.
