About this glass room
The brief
This detached home in Bolton has a raised porcelain patio with stone-faced retaining walls, planters and steps down to the lawn. They wanted a glass room to be the centrepiece of the new terrace – somewhere to sit and look out over the garden whatever the weather.
What we built
A 4 × 3 m glass room in anthracite aluminium (RAL 7016) with a clear toughened-glass roof and sliding glass walls on all three open sides. The anthracite frame picks up the dark window frames and the grey tones of the porcelain, and the full-height glass keeps the view across the lawn completely open.
The details
The frame is fixed to the brick wall above the patio doors and sits directly on the porcelain paving, with a linear drain along the front edge. Because the glass walls slide fully open, the terrace and the room work as one space on warm evenings – and the low sun across the garden makes it a lovely spot at the end of the day.
The result
A glass room that finishes the garden rather than sitting on top of it. One of our projects in Greater Manchester, a short drive from our Lancashire base.
