Glass room in Blackwater
7 × 2.7 m

The brief

A single-storey home in Blackwater with a raised terrace across the back of the house and a garden pond set right beside it. The owners wanted to turn the terrace into a room they could use all year round, without losing the view of the water and the lawn.

What we built

A 7 × 2.7 m glass room in anthracite aluminium with a clear toughened-glass roof and sliding glass walls on the front and both sides. The frame is fixed to the brick wall of the bungalow and sits on the existing raised terrace, so the room lines up neatly with the edge of the pond. The anthracite finish matches the window frames and doors.

The details

With the glass walls slid back, the room opens straight onto the garden; closed, it stays dry, bright and sheltered from the wind. The glass roof lets daylight reach the rooms behind, and from inside the pond, the lawn and the sky all stay in view.

The result

A full-width garden room that makes the most of a beautiful setting – and a good example of how a glass room can sit comfortably on a bungalow.
